Adding SMS verification
Our e-signature product traces user’s email address, IP address and the time when a document was opened and signed. For most transactions this is sufficient. However, there are situations where a second form of verification is required, for example, when partners share an email address and we want to make sure that both of them sign independently or due to regulatory requirements (IRS in the United States needs ‘a shared secret’ to accept electronic signatures, some European employers want to make sure employees cannot sign forms for colleagues through shared computers).
SMS verification is a simple way to achieve two-factor-authentication through ‘a shared secret’: a user receives a code via SMS which needs to be provided before a digital signature can be placed on a document. Once a document is signed, SMS verification message is added to the signature certificate that is appended to the signed pdf document.
Steps to add SMS verification
- When sending your document for signing, select the SMS verification option:
2. Once you select the option you will see a field for the mobile phone number. If your contact had a number in their address card, it will appear automatically. Otherwise, you can enter it here. Make sure you use a full international number format (“+” sign, followed by the country code, follow by the number).
3. After you send the document for signing and the recipient opens the email and clicks on the signature link, we will send an SMS with the verification code. The signee will have to enter the code prior to submitting the document:
